Why use a Celebrant?
Location and venue of your choice: it doesn't have to be a licensed venue, so if you've always dreamed of having a ceremony on a beach, in a wedding barn, manor house, in the forest or simply in your own garden a celebrant ceremony could be just what you are looking for.
Unique ceremony: Your imagination is the limit, sophisticated traditional wedding to Alice in Wonderland or medieval, we can explore lots of options and ideas.
Your vows: Perhaps you want to write your own personal vows, some humorous, heartfelt or simplistic. These can have a special meaning to you both.
Family and guests: As little or as many as you like. You may want to include family or friends in the ceremony. Readings, poems, musical renditions from your guests can be incorporated. Perhaps one of your guests has a special talent that you would like included.
Ceremony rituals: Handfasting, Sand ceremony, Unity candle, Jumping the Broom and other more personalised ceremonies can be included.
Meet your Celebrant before the ceremony: To build a relationship to help plan and make your day truly memorable we would spend time together, talking about your plans, your love story, your likes and dislikes and sense of humour.
Are Celebrant-led ceremonies legally binding?
Sadly, a celebrant led wedding in England or Wales is not legally binding. So, if you are choosing to have your ceremony officiated by a celebrant you would need to arrange to have your legal paperwork completed separately from your ceremony.
This technicality can be easily sorted to ensure you can still have the celebrant wedding that you dreamed of.
The simplest thing to do to become legally married is to go down to your local registry office to register your intent to marry (everyone has to do this, even if you plan to get married at the registry office).
You can then request a simple service at the registry office, take two witnesses along, the registrar follows a set script and you sign the documents. You can save your vows and rings and anything else for your celebrant ceremony. You can do this before or after a celebrant ceremony but for the purposes of booking with myself, I ask that the legal service is conducted before any ceremony is officiated by myself.
Of course, if you are getting married in a licenced venue then a registrar will be able to legally marry you at the venue. So you may choose to do the legal part before your guests arrive and then hold your ceremony with all your family and friends, for example, registrars are limited to where they can operate, so you may have legal ceremony in a specific room in a manor house but you can have your celebrant celebration in the grounds.
